About Us

Meet Cameron Dougall

Since I picked up the bass at the age of 13, I’ve been in love with the instrument and everything that comes with it.  It has allowed me to travel, play some incredible venues and festivals and to meet and play with some amazing people, including my future wife! All of which I’m incredibly grateful for.  I’ve also been lucky enough to look out into the crowd in front of me and see the one and only Bootsy Collins dancing….to my playing!

As a teenager I played a lot of smoky dive bars and house parties. I then relocated to Toronto, where I studied jazz performance at Humber College before leaving early to continue my education the rough and tumble way.  I spent countless nights at weekly jams and shows and was eventually welcomed into a scene of much more experienced players. I was put through the ringer by some of my favorite musicians in the years that followed and came out on the other side having honed my skills in active listening, pocket, performance, and professionalism.  The experience and education I gained in these situations has taken me on an incredible musical journey and is what has given me the ability to relate to musicians of many different backgrounds and skill levels.

My love for bass and music and the effect they’ve had on my life is what became the catalyst for Low End Nation.  My goal is to help my fellow musicians avoid the pitfalls that I, and many others have experienced. I’ve created this platform to share lessons that will prepare you for your first gig and all the gigs after that, gear reviews so that you don’t waste your time or hard-earned money, and to introduce you to musicians that inspire me so that they can inspire you too.

Through Low End Nation, I’ve strived to create lessons that tackle not only the bassics you need to learn but also some of the more intangible aspects of music to bring you lessons that will actually make you feel the difference in your playing as soon as you start working on them.  My goal for our content and lessons will always be quality over quantity.

I’ve loved every minute of creating and building the Low End Nation bass family so please feel free to reach out anytime.  I’d love to hear what content you’d like to see and any of your comments and suggestions.

Peace and Love, your friend,

Cam
