Players of the month

Mark Grocki

Bass Player Mark Grocki

Bass player Mark Grocki (@metalgrock) is from Connecticut, USA.  He started playing guitar back in 1999, only because the clerks at Guitar Center laughed at him when he wanted to play bass through a distortion pedal like his idol Cliff Burton.  Mark continued playing guitar through his 20s and 30s, and only noodled on bass from time to time.  He started a youtube channel back in 2011 but did not put much effort into it at that time. Mark has been in several successful cover bands over the years, and has put out two original EP’s under the artist name “Grocki”.

Soon after the pandemic hit in 2020, and with no live band options due to quarantine, Mark rekindled his youtube channel to be his outlet for playing.  He started looking for inspiration, ultimately re-discovering his bass hero Cliff Burton, and started putting out covers of some of the hardest shred-guitar solos imaginable…  but playing them on his 4-string Ibanez bass (without a pick!). Mark has covered solos from bands such as Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Guns n Roses, Dragonforce, Ozzy, and Judas Priest on his YouTube Channel and Instagram.

Mark has been quoted saying “I simply enjoy challenging myself and challenging the status quo of the musical world… there’s 10’s of thousands of guitar solo covers for Pantera’s Walk, but only one done on bass!”.

Mark has been a part of the Low End Nation community since its inception and is a mainstay on our channel with his insane shred metal covers.
