Initially training in jazz trombone, Matthew moved to piano, guitar, drums and eventually bass guitar at 15 where he fell in love with it’s sound and feel.
Growing up split between rural England and London, he was able to experience a wide range of sounds and music that helped him to develop a style of playing that incorporates elements of funk, jazz, rock and soul. This “Voice” has enabled him to work with a wide range of artists, as both a side man and as an arranger and composer, across a variety of genres both live and in the studio.
Since 2018, Matthew has also been releasing music as a solo bassist. Predominantly loop-based, he describes it as “Ambience to stir your imagination”. Predominantly playing an Ibanez BTB686SC, Matthew also uses Bartolini Pickups and Pitbull Strings.
Based in South-West England, as well as writing and releasing music for solo bass, he is also writing, recording and performing with multiple acts across Southern England as well as being the house bassist for some of local open-mic nights.
