Free Bass Lesson: Fishbone – Lyin’ Ass Bitch

Image of NOrwood Fisher of Fishbone.

In this free bass lesson, I’ll teach you how to play all of the parts of Fishbone’s funk/ska track, “Lyin’ Ass Bitch.”

Fishbone has been a favourite band of mine since I first heard them back in high school.  Their message along with their ability to switch seamlessly between styles like, funk, punk, ska, metal, jazz and rock blew me away and their musicianship was on another level.  Bassist Norwood Fisher’s creative and sometimes extremely complex lines were worthy of hours of practice trying to lift and emulate, but as you will come to find, no one sounds quite like Norwood.

Fishbone is one of the most electrifying live bands I have ever seen and they’re still out there doing it, so if they happen to come through your area, make sure you don’t miss it!

The Fishbone catalog is a gold mine of killer basslines and if you want to learn to play bass, it’s amazing to jump into.

Lyin’ Ass Bitch is one of my favourite tracks and Fishbone basslines to play.  It definitely gives your hands a workout and that ska vibe on bass is infectious.

In this bass lesson I’ll show you how to play all of the parts of this bassline, and play the song all the way through so you can see the parts and patterns in action.  Norwood Fisher is known for playing a 5 String Warwick bass, however for this particular song you’ll only need a 4 string bass.
