Stevie Wonder Bass Lesson – “Do Like You” with Tabs

Image of Stevie Wonder Bass Lesson

In this Stevie Wonder bass lesson, I’ll teach you the awesome unison line from “Do Like You” off the album Hotter Than July (1980).

We all know that Stevie Wonder’s left hand is responsible for some of the baddest basslines ever played and this one is no exception.  To me this line combines elements of a couple of other Stevie tracks and I think you’ll hear them as soon as I slow the line down in the lesson.

I’ve seen some debate on other bass sites about whether this was actually Nathan Watts playing bass on this track, however you can clearly hear the synth sound, especially on the higher notes of the main bassline.  Definitely Stevie and definitely groovin’.

This song and unison line is built off of the Ab Mixolydian Mode and the first part of the line is basically just a descending Ab mixolydian with a scoop from the minor 3rd up to the major 3rd and omits the 2nd scale degree.  Check out the video and then grab the free bass tab on our full lessons site here.
